He choked on the sob as he heard her, trying to immediately bury it behind fatherly stoticism, behind a need to seem okay.
“F-fine,” he spluttered before coughing and steeling his voice, “Yeah, fine.” He didn’t look around - his tears would be visible if he did.
She gave a nod, chewing on her lower lip lightly. That didn’t exactly sound okay but she wouldn’t try to argue about that with him. That probably wouldn’t really help his case.
She merely sat down, leaning her shoulder against his back lightly. “….okay… but… can you promise that?” she mumbled quietly. “Y’know, just.. so I’m sure you’re fine. And stuff.”
“Let me guess, your pattern applies to other fun activities you and I could do that still burn calories?”

“It’s almost as though you can read my mind, dear Sy~”
Seventeen sank to the curb heavily, drawing his knees close to his chest.
Oh, hell… What… What had he done? He couldn’t even begin to attempt to conceal the tears as a racking sob escaped him.
What was he doing…
Everything wrong. What else?
He just sat on the curb, holding himself close, as the sobs escaped him.
Of course she’d followed him. He was basically her father and she was worried. That look he’d been wearing lately.. it reminded her of her mother’s look when he wasn’t around. And that wasn’t anything good.
Naomi slowly moved closer, stopping behind him and crouching down.
For a moment, she hesitated, considered to maybe just go back and tell her mother, though she eventually gently put a hand on his back, tilting her head lightly.
“Are.. Are you okay, dad?”
“Well, I would but I believe experiencing it is far better, love.”

“Probably, same goes for quite a few things. I’m sensing a pattern here.”
“This ‘LARP’ thing is rather fun.”

“Tell me about it~”
He let a soft chuckle escape him as she spoke, as her arms tightened. “I appreciate that,” he said softly, with a nod.
Internally, his mind was at a crossroads, a stalemate. She left him again and that hurt more than anything.
But equally, he loved her and he wanted to have her back.
Which side held more strength? Neither… Until a realization hit.
How often had he forced her into situations that pained her, that she wished to protect him from? He crossed his own Time Line, for the love of the Vortex. He had done so much idiotic things in his time that she would have been right to hold him to account for.
She didn’t.
How could he hold her to account?
Slowly, a grin broke his face. “It’s damn good to see you again.”
She watched each and every little change in his expression, feeling lightly tense as she knew that he absence surely didn’t do any good to their relationship.
She didn’t like being so volatile and leaving without a warning now and then, but she also couldn’t help but feel restless.
It was horribly confusing and exhausting to try and fight that but she did want to stay with him. He was worth the effort, most definitely.
His grin almost seemed contagious and she soon mimicked it, wrapping her arms around his neck and enjoying to be close to him again. “And you.. I really, really missed you.”

Sorry.
Again.
There was a certain part of him which shrugged the words off in complete contempt before she could finish the sentence. Was she really, that part asked. She wouldn’t leave if she was sorry. She might even simply say, make it that bit easier. Send a message. Something.
The rest just wrapped his arms around her, rubbing her back gently. “Don’t be,” he answered softly, “And I missed you too.”
“I am. I know you don’t like it- and neither do I. So.. sorry.” A soft sigh escaped her before she pressed a kiss to his neck. She knew that she couldn’t keep doing that, it didn’t only hurt him but also her. And yet, something inside her urged her to keep doing that.
Probably the same part that had told her that dying would make things better.
She wrapped her arms a little tighter around him, humming contently. “.. I won’t do it again. Not voluntarily. I promise. Somebody’s gotta keep you from dying of boredom, hm?”
